Meet Edwin and Nori: A true story of success.

IMG_0408_edited.jpg

Since his teenage years in Puno-Perú Edwin was surrounded by coffee production, once he finished high school, he was sure that he wanted to have his own finca but his friends at the time didn’t encourage this; he tells me: “staying on the farms, and not trying to get a degree or move to a bigger city, was seen as a lack of ambition and a future of poverty”.

But Edwin understood where his friends were coming from and realized that if he was to become a success in Perú he needed to become highly knowledgeable.

He worked on getting his Q-certification and became a household name in the cup of excellence as a judge, then he got his Q-processing and Barista training. Worked in Chile, Bolivia, and allover Perú for the ministry of coffee production.

This is where he met his partner Nori, a businesswoman from a family of coffee producers in Cusco, Perú.

In 2018, they both quit their government jobs and bought some land from Nori’s family in Quellouno and moved close by to Quillabamba.

This 1.5 hectares of coffee took many years to grow from scratch. With geisha, bourbon and typica. Edwin and Nori applied their knowledge in business and processing to secure the 4th place in the cup of excellence the very first year of production.

Now in 2022, They have a state of the art coffee school and lab, a successful business that exports almost all their production to South Korea; and as true business men and leaders they invest and teach in fincas from Nuri’s family, to share the success and be able to accommodate larger orders

Cooperative Huadquiña

Staring in 1964 The cooperative Huadquiñna has a deep connection to the coffee community in Cusco-Peru. Since there origins, the cooperative has worked as a democratic organization that helps organize and produce the coffee crops of over 330 families in the area, with a total size of 728 hectares.

With the industry shifting into specialty grade coffee, the cooperative has installed a processing plant where the coffee cherries are transported to for post-harvesting. Here they can have greater control over variables in selection and fermentation, offering a more consistent product.

The main processing plant is in the province of La Convención – Cuzco, close to the sacred city of Machu Picchu where the climate is warm and stable.
